Charlotte, NC (October 28, 2018) – The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police have been working on the investigation of a fatal pedestrian crash that took place on Independence Boulevard. The accident happened around 9 p.m. on Friday, October 26 and took the life of one pedestrian.
Police said that, after they arrived at the scene of the accident, they discovered a pedestrian lying in the roadway and several vehicles stopped at the scene. Investigators say that the pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle while they were trying to cross the roadway near Krefeld Drive.
The vehicle that struck the pedestrian was traveling west and struck them with the front driver’s side corner at top speeds. The pedestrian was then thrown into the eastbound lanes of the roadway.
When police and emergency responders arrived at the scene, the pedestrian was immediately pronounced dead. Police say that there are no crosswalks in the area. The pedestrian has since been identified as 18-year-old Sierra Anitra Ratliff.
Police are still searching for witnesses who might have seen the accident take place.
