The accident happened around 3:50 p.m. at mile marker 46 around the area of Mauldin Road. Police say that a total of five vehicles were involved.

There was a 6-mile backup in the area, according to helicopter crews that flew over the scene. Emergency vehicles were on-scene and troopers said that injuries were reported.
